Peak District, April 28th 2016

Posted by
Ian Bramham (Manchester, United Kingdom) on 29 April 2016 in Landscape & Rural and Portfolio.

A photo taken yesterday morning from near Mam Tor looking down into the Hope Valley showing a snow shrouded Peak District.

This area of the Peak District National Park is about 30 minutes by car from where I live in Cheshire.

Photographed using an iphone 6 using the 'pano' setting where the camera auto stitches multiple images together. The resulting jpeg in this particular case is 23mp in size (8250 x 2800) and it gives great wide angle coverage.

There's a larger version of this photo here for anyone who is interested:

Great stuff! I love the Peak District and I love photographing in the snow (I spent a week in January in Hokkaido following a few scenes that Michael Kenna immortalized)
BTW: certainly worth clicking through to the Flickr version as the version above doesn't do the scenery justice.

@Hans ter Horst: Hi Hans - I'm very envious of your visit to Hokkaido! Were you able to travel about okay with all the snow that they get there in winter?

We had rented a car and luckily it turned out to be a tiny 4WD. We needed it though as at times the snow was coming over the car as much as the car pushed it to the sides, luckily it was all powder snow or else we would have been in trouble. But most of the time it was pretty doable and we could drive normal speeds:
I enjoyed exploring the copses and trees Michael Kenna had photographed, see my blog (follow the link in my name) for my take on these classics.

@Hans ter Horst: Just looked at your YouTube video - Wow!!! I made a similar road trip video during our recent trip to Cambodia for the journey between Siem Reap and Phnom Penh - no snow like yours but lots of dust!:
