Millstone, Peak District

Posted by
Ian Bramham (Manchester, United Kingdom) on 7 April 2015 in Landscape & Rural and Portfolio.

A photo of one of the many abandoned millstones in the Peak District.

The spot where I took this photo is Over Owler Tor which is part of the gritstone 'dark peak' area of the Peak District. It's not far from where I live in Cheshire.

Photographed using 4 stops of ND grad filter.

NIKON D800 1/60 second F/8.0 ISO 100 35 mm (35mm equiv.)

Very sweet; you're getting some great photos from such a great location. When I was living in London, the Peaks were a place to go to experience the beauty of England. I know that you were rather hesitant about photographing the Peaks, maybe because it is so close to your home, but I do think that you're getting results equalling your work in Greece, Venice, etc.

superb composition - the milestone pulls the viewer in and the the rock above redirects the eyes back into the frame and towards the background where a change of tonality occurs... excellent work!
