I've just returned from a 4 day landscape photography trip to Iceland in the company of John Leech and Mike Spriggs.
Iceland is the most surreal and majestic place you can imagine and quite unlike anywhere else that I've ever visited - absolutely wonderful!
This was photographed at night in the small coastal town of Vik in Iceland and shows the town's lovely church which is perched on a beautiful spot high up on a hill overlooking the Atlantic ocean.
Like many towns in Iceland Vik is located very close to a volcano and a glacier. The volcano in Vik hasn't erupted since 1918 and is long overdue. The worry for the inhabitants is that when it does eventually erupt again it may melt enough ice from the glacier that the town will be washed away. This church up on the hill is the safest place so the town's inhabitants practice regular evacuation drills with the church as the rally point.

@Ainsley: Thanks Ainsley!
@Ana Lúcia: Thanks Ana!
@Ian Smith: Thanks Ian - it's an amazing country with an endless variety of astonishing opportunities for photography.
@Jerry: Hi Jerry - the whole country has a majestic and surreal feel to it which makes it an absolutely wonderful place for landscape photography. This particular shot was taken at night and the church was floodlit which really made it stand out against the darkness of the mountainside.
@OpenSpace Images: You'll love Iceland Marianthi! - what time of year are you going? ps - I've voted for you in the PP comp - good luck with it!
@k@: Hi Karine - no, there's virtaully no post processing on this apart from the obvious b&w conversion and I lifted the shadows very slightly. It was a night shot and the church was floodlit.
