Magazine article

Posted by
Ian Bramham (Manchester, United Kingdom) on 10 July 2012 in Cityscape & Urban and Portfolio.

'Practical Photography' magazine here in the UK recently asked if I'd write an article for them about my photography - it's the first time I've been asked to do anything like this so it was really exciting! The article is in this months issue of the magazine (don't ask me why it's called the August edition when it's pubilshed in July!)

Like what you see here and are interested in photographic composition?.....the blog section of my website now has a complete set of 5 articles covering my personal approach to the subject: Ian Bramham Photography - Blog

@Annierita & Annisabelle: Thanks! (well they do say beauty is in the eye of the beholder)

Ian Smith from London, United Kingdom

Congrat's once again Ian! I know how you feel - I once wrote an article for Mac User magazine about a (then) unique technique in web design (handy having a tutor who's good mates with the editor). I bought a dozen copies for myself - just in case :-)

@Ian Smith: Thanks Ian! (the whole thing is a bit surreal but nice all the same!)

Jerry from Aberdeen, United States

Well deserved Ian, you do great work. Is there a place online that we can view this article?

11 Jul 2012 6:02am

@Jerry: Thanks Jerry! I'm pretty sure that there's no online version of the magazine but lots of UK libraries stock it. The text in the article should be just about readable if you click on the link at the top of the page to the larger version.

Andrew Atkinson from Hartlepool, United Kingdom

Congrats again, meant to ask if you have had a chance to use the Hitech 6 stop ND and if you have what are your thoughts?

11 Jul 2012 7:56am

@Andrew Atkinson: Thanks Andrew! the Hitech - no, I haven't had a chance to use it yet but I will be trying it out over the next few weeks and I'll let you know. All the signs are promising as it's an excellent fit in a 2 slot Lee holder next to my Lee 10 stop nd filter with the gasket just touching the second filter to make a light seal.

Ryan Hammond from Tucson, United States

Congratulations, Ian! You really do deserve it! I need to go find a copy of that magazine right away.

Andy Howe from Chester, United Kingdom

Yep, great stuff Ian. Your one of the reasons why I got into photography, very well deserved. I grew up near Fiddlers Ferry (Gt Sankey), so the Power Station was always on the horizon. I went to Daresbury the other week, but should have read No 1 on your list (better in Autumn/Winter!!). Let me know if your around that way, be cool to meet up, and get some well needed advice. I just got PP today, and it really shows the care and attention you have given the images, in the reproduction in the magazine, I love this kind of photography, excellent work, really. Andy

Just read the article, awesome work. IMO, the UK photography magazines would do better if they focus more on the photography part of photography, like your article, instead of endless and contradictory Photoshop introductions and a parade of cameras and lenses. :-)
