The Tyne Bridge, Newcastle

Posted by
Ian Bramham (Manchester, United Kingdom) on 15 June 2012 in Cityscape & Urban and Portfolio.

Built in 1928 when it held the record as the world's longest single span bridge.

This was a 4 minute long exposure using 16 stops (a 10 stop Lee and a 6 stop 'B+W') of stacked neutral density filters in front of my wide angle lens.

Andrew Atkinson from Hartlepool, United Kingdom

Ian, great shot and different to the normal shots of the Tyne Bridge you normally see. I really should go there more often it's only 45 minutes away.

@Andrew Atkinson: Thanks Andrew - it's a very photogenic city!

Gérard Beullac from Paris, France

No vibrations in Newcastle during 4 minutes, this city seems really quiet.

@Gérard Beullac: Thanks Gérard! I was very surprised myself that this came out sharp enough as I had my tripod set up on the next bridge downstream which is a lightweight pedestrian bridge which vibrated quite a bit during those 4 minutes. Although it was vibrating I think the bridge I was on must having been vibrating back to rest at excatly the same position.

Aubélia from Kortrijk, Belgium

This is a fine image. The inclusion of the structure in the mid-foreground adds great DoF and perspective.
