Andrew Atkinson from Hartlepool, United Kingdom

Great shot Ian, did you try a long exposure for this one or was the too much movement in the water?

24 Apr 2012 6:22am

@Andrew Atkinson: Hi Andrew, to tell you the truth I didn't even consider trying to do a long exposure photo of this scene as I liked it already the way it was with that glass smooth water, an interesting sky and, of course, some really lovely light.

Hans ter Horst from Ruislip, United Kingdom

Amazing work! Assuming that none of you knew the area well before going there, how did you spot these great locations?

24 Apr 2012 6:33am

@Hans ter Horst: Hi Hans, you're right that it's always much more difficult when you don't know the area but that particular stretch of coast is great for photography. There are quite a lot of these small scale fish farms just off the coast in Greece and we had already driven past a few without finding anywhere safe to stop the car - with this one however I managed to pull over in a safe spot at the side of the road and take a quick snap-shot (which turned out better than I had hoped!)

With the location of my previous photo the trip to Meteora was organised by a good friend and fellow photographer from Greece - Alex Bazeos:

I love here the great balance between a rich sky and these structures lying on the smooth surface of the water.
Another splendid composition, Ian !

I'd find it hard to decide what sort of scene suits the square format these days, this just looks so harmonious in its two halves.
