Point Of Ayr

Posted by Ian Bramham (Manchester, United Kingdom) on 10 May 2010 in Landscape & Rural and Portfolio.

Another photo showing the beautiful serenity of the landscape surrounding the lighthouse at the Point of Ayr lighthouse in North Wales.

Personally speaking, I think this is one of the best photos I've ever taken. I know it's perhaps not the kind of image that would win competitions but I'm very happy with the composition and feeling of quietness and it feels like I've taken a genuine step forward with my photography.

Seriously nice composition!
It looks far too calm to be a 1/180 sec. exposure, is the exif right Ian?

10 May 2010 9:23am

@Curly: Thanks!....yes, the exif is correct. It was a windless overcast day so the clouds weren't moving and the water in front of the lighthouse was part of a still pond of sea water trapped when the tide went out.

Céline from Paris, France

Excellent! That's a great compo, I love the serenity and the calm of this landsacape, and the reflections in the water.

Very nice photo Ian - it would make a good hanging on anybody's wall.
Just curious about the dark water - did you burn this in, or was it part of the original shot, as I kind of expect the sky to reflect this somehow?

Total reduction to the essence of this landscape, a great photo. I envy you a bit for having this nature and the sea to play with.
