Manchester Ship Canal

A photo from around dawn earlier this week near my office with the Manchester Ship Canal enveloped in mist.

Simplicity and calmness make this shot for me. The only thing I am not sure about is the flying bird: It adds another element of interest and another point for the eye to explore. Yet for me it makes the shot a little more unbalanced in comparison to two ducks only. But that's just my personal preference. I am sure that the flying bird is a huge add-on for most people.

@Mirko Herzner: Thanks Mirko!...yes, I wasn't sure about the bird in the sky myself but decided in the end to leave the photo uncropped as it does help to add depth.

The two ducks on the bottom of the frame are interesting to some extent. The stillness of the water is simply surreal. The boat hiding behind the fog adds a bunch of mystery to the frame though. Excellent shot!

@Fred: Thanks Fred....the canada geese in the foreground and the seagull in the sky are really there to help to give some kind of depth to the misty light in the photo. If you try and imagine it with just the boat it would be very flat and uninteresting.
