The Blizzard

Posted by
Ian Bramham (Manchester, United Kingdom) on 6 January 2010 in Sport & Recreation and Portfolio.

A cross country skiier on the Col du Petit Saint-Bernard in France last week.

About 2 feet of snow fell in the week we were in La Rosiere. It didn't feel safe going downhill skiiing this particular day as it was snowing so heavily so I went out with my camera instead.

(Edit - I've replaced this with a differently processed version of this photo which shows the snow better)

NIKON D40 1/100 second F/8.0 ISO 200 33 mm (35mm equiv.)

I remember La Rosiere from about 1990 and remember a lively bar (singing Volare!) overlooking the valley at base station and some very icy blacks at La Thuille...can't remember much else or that there was much to shoot...but as always, you are braver with the camera in the snow than I am!

6 Jan 2010 8:28am

@Ted: Yes, La Rosiere is very close to the border and all the ski slopes are overlooked by Mt Blanc although I don't think the scenery is quite as dramatic as Courchevel or even Les Arcs. I'm not feeling very inspired photographically at the moment for some reason although I did take a couple of photos like this one that I was happy with.

Hoshisato from Ealing, United Kingdom

Great shot! I hope you're not snowed under in Manchester :-)
