Ribble Viaduct

Posted by
Ian Bramham (Manchester, United Kingdom) on 27 November 2009 in Landscape & Rural and Portfolio.

Another photo of the victorian railway viaduct over the Ribble valley in North Yorkshire. Photographed about half an hour before sunset last Saturday in some stormy and very wet weather.

This photo was taken during a joint photo shoot with John Leech and you can see one of his great images of the viaduct here:

NIKON D40 1/50 second F/5.6 ISO 200 24 mm (35mm equiv.)

John Leech from Grange-over-Sands, United Kingdom

More 4 Yorkshiremen than Flying Scotsman, this shot really gets under the skin. Try telling that to the young folk o'today.

@John Leech: Thanks.....I really loved the way the light was coming through the arches of the viaduct that day!

Ariel from Madrid, Spain

Fantastic image, Ian. Dramatic, contrasted, full of energy. And yet, still a bridge. That's what I call a great eye for photography.

Amazing shot Ian. The stormy sky and the strong silhouette really sets a mood. I like how you have included so much of the foreground as it creates a tension as the eye moves through the frame.

DarkElf from Perth, Australia

that's fantastic - even more drama and darkness than the previous one that you posted from this spot... the darker surroundings seem to be directing the light straight onto the bridge and that creates a really nice effect and attracts the eyes to the main subject (the dirt road in the foreground also helps to bring the eyes towards the bridge) - i really like this one!
