Llanddulas Limestone Works

Posted by
Ian Bramham (Manchester, United Kingdom) on 27 May 2011 in Business & Industry and Portfolio.

The derelict jetty on the coast at Llanddulas in North Wales.

It was used in the past for transporting crushed limestone from the local quarry out to waiting ships.

Amazing picture. The b&w processing reinforces the strange feeling about this landscape (concrete blocks on the beach and barbed wire on the jetty). Superb.

wonderful composition, tones, contrast - admire your sens of order, balance particularly in this busy scenery - plus love the birds and the silhouette here - their presence is very important especially when we look at the other elements - the barbed wire, the emptiness around. This area is still alive!

Gérard Beullac from Paris, France

The point of view is ideal, with this foreground of agressive concrete blocks giving more dramatic atmosphere to the whole scene.
By chance the sky is perfect, for completingt this intention.
Good treatment, as usual...

Great composition as usual Ian, the processing looks a little harder than what you might normally employ. It has given you excellent structure in the clouds.

@Curly: Hi Curly, as you say it's harder post processing than I would normally go for and I'm in two minds whether I like it or not. I think it was one of those locations where I could have done better.

Very impressive these barbed wires on the bridge. An image which reminds the war or later, very fascinating also by the intensity of your black and white
