bluechameleon from Vancouver, CanadaAn excellent high contrast shot Ian. I love how sparse this shot is, yet so full of detail. 26 Oct 2009 5:02am @bluechameleon: Thanks Sharon! @lydia: Thanks Lydia! Mirko Herzner from GermanyGreat use of those natural features to divide the shot into three parts. I like how only is of these parts is really "used", the other two being mostly empty space... 26 Oct 2009 6:06am @Mirko Herzner: Thanks Mirko!....the photo divided itself naturally into those thirds really. @Fabienne: Thanks Fabienne! yz from Hungarylove how the chimneys and those sticks compliment the composition 26 Oct 2009 9:13am @yz: Thanks yz!....by the way, those 3 'sticks' in the foreground are actually the size of tree trunks! I think they are old mooring posts for the ocean going ships that use the canal. Interestingly there were several hundred geese swimming on the water while I was taking this photo but because of the long exposure they didn't show up on the final image. Anna.C from LA ROCHELLE, FranceI also love the high contrast and this kind of photographe ! a very stylish picture ! 26 Oct 2009 9:13am @Anna.C: Thanks Anna! John Leech from Grange-over-Sands, United KingdomAn all time gem. Fascinating how the reflections of the sticks(!) work and how the buildings have a vampire like lack of reflection. 26 Oct 2009 9:39am @John Leech: Thanks John!...It was a very grey, overcast day with drizzly rain which is probably why the reflections don't amount to much! @Mags: Thanks Mags....it's a dramatic place and this power station and a nearby bridge http://ianbramham.aminus3.com/portfolio/136.html just out of shot to the left of the photo really dominate the landscape. @Sriram: Thanks Sriram! MadScientist from Düsseldorf, GermanyPlenty of atmosphere with few elements! Almost looks like a snow-covered landscape. 26 Oct 2009 11:13am dj.tigersprout from New York City, United Statesa wonderful mood of desolation -- the lighting is brilliant! 26 Oct 2009 1:19pm Ian Smith from London, United KingdomGreat shot Ian. The starkness of the scene lends itself perfectly to the subject. 26 Oct 2009 1:46pm hugo poon from hong kong, Hong KongWhat can I say Ian... this is such an expressive and unforgettable image!!! The forms and composition are simple, yet they interact with each other in the contrasting tones to creat an amazing impact! Masterful work! 26 Oct 2009 3:48pm Lorraine from Gatineau, CanadaSo isolated, quiet but not peaceful....full of drama, wow! 26 Oct 2009 4:54pm Michael from Shell village, United KingdomStriking image Ian, almost a silhouette. 26 Oct 2009 11:23pm Stephane Themeze from Maryland, United StatesSeems like Life doesn't dare coming any closer and desertification is a way out. Strong composition and contrasts that match the nature of the environment. 27 Oct 2009 2:37am Didier DE ZAN from somewhere, FranceVery beautiful I like this BW and the contrast 28 Oct 2009 5:56am Jeremie from St-Etienne - Paris, FranceSimply gorgeous !!
