The Albert Dock, LiverpoolPosted by Ian Bramham (Manchester, United Kingdom) on 22 July 2009 in Cityscape & Urban and Portfolio. A long exposure photo of the Albert Dock and the River Mersey in Liverpool. The vignette is a natural effect from stacking neutral density filters in front of this extreme wide angle lens. For purchasing high quality archival prints of any of these photos you can send me an email by clicking here or by going to MY NEW WEBSITE where prices are listed in the gallery sections under each individual photo. Links to the websites of other photographers whose work I love and who have all helped me enormously over a long period of time. I find the work of all 3 to be inspirational.

Mirko Herzner from GermanySimplicity and superiour b/w processing make this image stand out. Well done, Ian! 22 Jul 2009 6:10am @Mirko Herzner: Thanks Mirko! @k@: Thanks! Renata from Häljarp, SwedenAmazing shot. Can you please tell me what kind a grey filter you are using for this kind of images? Thank you. /Renata 22 Jul 2009 7:27am @Renata: Thanks Renata....I use screw-in circular neutral density filters made by a German company called "B W" I have a 10 stop version and a 6 stop one and I stacked them over the front of the lens to get this length of exposure. A normal exposure without the filters would have been about 1/800th of a second instead of the 2 minutes and 22 seconds of this version. As you can see, stacking filters in front of such an extreme wide angle lens is not really recommended as it produces a dark vignette effect around the edge of the frame where the light entering the lens is catching the edge of the filter. @Luca Bobbiesi: Thanks Lucca! Lorraine from Gatineau, CanadaSubtle, morose, magnificent, the mood of your photos leave me awestruck, always! 22 Jul 2009 11:09am Anna.C from LA ROCHELLE, Francesuperb, superb ! great perspective, beautiful BW well contrasted, I love the smooth effect of long exposure, even the vignette woks well in this case. 22 Jul 2009 12:11pm bluechameleon from Vancouver, CanadaWow Ian! This is really a wonderful shot. The contrast between the smooth still water and the texture and shadows on the sidewalk are really something! Depth of field and perspective, top notch! De Jesus R. from Mexico City, MexicoWide angle here sucks one into the image. Nice job. 30 Jul 2009 8:05pm John Leech from Grange-over-Sands, United KingdomLooks like I missed a few of these while I was on holiday. Nice one, the flattening effect on the water makes for a compelling composition. You got the balance and glow spot on. 8 Sep 2009 8:35pm |
