Yorkshire StepsPosted by Ian Bramham (Manchester, United Kingdom) on 20 May 2009 in Cityscape & Urban and Portfolio. This is a photo I took in a small town just outside Halifax in Yorkshire. I really liked the opposing angles formed by the stairs, the railings and their shadows, and the road. I could hear the van coming so I waited to get it in shot to finish the image. This is one of those photos that I could just 'see' working in B&W before I'd even pressed the shutter button :-) I'm heavily influenced with his kind of composition by the photography of the famous Alexander Rodchenko . I've decided to enter the 'Cool Photoblogs' annual competition again this year. I'd really appreciate a vote from any of you who like my blog and who feel up to going through the registration process that is required in order to be able to vote: 2009 Photoblog Awards For purchasing high quality archival prints of any of these photos you can send me an email by clicking here or by going to MY NEW WEBSITE where prices are listed in the gallery sections under each individual photo. Links to the websites of other photographers whose work I love and who have all helped me enormously over a long period of time. I find the work of all 3 to be inspirational.

@Jean-François: Thanks Jean-François! Mirko Herzner from GermanyThis is truly a stunning composition here. And you are absolutely right about this image being only possible in b/w. 20 May 2009 7:07am @Mirko Herzner: Thanks Mirko! dkc from Xanthi, GreeceYou choose the right photo to go b&w...I truly like the shadows on the top of the stairs! 20 May 2009 9:32am Turnbill from Maine, United StatesYes, this works very well in B&W. The juxtaposition of the old stairs with wrought iron railings and the speeding van is very nice. 20 May 2009 10:45am MadScientist from Düsseldorf, GermanyThe angles are great - the vertigo effect, too! :-) 20 May 2009 9:43pm hugo poon from hong kong, Hong KongOh yes, such a strong arresting composition... fantastic tone, details and superb timing! Just like it!:-) 21 May 2009 2:34am Mike from Lichfield, United KingdomI can see why you like this one so much as the angles work so well. The picture wouldn't have quite as much punch without the van so I'm glad you hung around for it. I particularly like the gritty feel to the processing. Very nice work. 21 May 2009 5:44am |
