A River of PeoplePosted by Ian Bramham (Manchester, United Kingdom) on 12 February 2009 in Documentary & Street and Portfolio. A long exposure photo of the crowds of tourists passing up and down the stairs at night in Montmartre, Paris.... a river of close packed humanity. For purchasing high quality archival prints of any of these photos you can send me an email by clicking here or by going to MY NEW WEBSITE where prices are listed in the gallery sections under each individual photo. Links to the websites of other photographers whose work I love and who have all helped me enormously over a long period of time. I find the work of all 3 to be inspirational.

Suzanne from Huntington Bch, California, United StatesThis is terrific. I love the feeling of movement along with the subtle colors. Excellent capture. 12 Feb 2009 6:19am @Suzanne: Thanks Suzanne....the part of this long exposure photo which surprised me the most when I saw it on my computer screen was the 'stutter' - the way in which each person's image has been caught several times as they hesitated before taking the next step in that long flight of stairs. @Patrick: Thanks Patrick! Hoshisato from Ealing, United KingdomWell done; it is weird how long exposure of crowds make them resemble smoke. 12 Feb 2009 9:08am Cheryl from Texas, United Statesgreat title, it does look like a river of people! I like the motion and the light! Bravo 12 Feb 2009 11:19am Polydactyle from Montreal, CanadaNice shot! Excellent colors. We can feel the mouvement! 12 Feb 2009 12:45pm Michael Paulison from United StatesWhat a nice and really interesting photo! The movement is fantastic. 12 Feb 2009 2:54pm grant from kansas city, United Statesvery cool shot - it's a bit eerie. there is a sense that the people are moving passively, a 'lambs to slaughter' feel to it. 12 Feb 2009 4:01pm Mirko Herzner from Mühlheim am Main, GermanyWhat a fantastic effect, Ian. I bet you received quite some weird looks from your models... 12 Feb 2009 7:02pm MadScientist from Düsseldorf, GermanyVery disciplined people, all running in a queue. Japanese? :-) 12 Feb 2009 7:54pm @MadScientist: :-) no, just the Christmas holiday crowds moving slowly up and down from Montmartre which is the hill withe the spectacular church overlooking the city centre. probob from Kaliningrad, Russian FederationI like how colors are balanced. And exposure technique is great! 12 Feb 2009 10:18pm Daryl from Amagasaki, JapanYes! Interesting to see everyone carefully following the designated path. 12 Feb 2009 11:37pm lucie from san francisco, United Statesreminds me of Marcel Duchamp. Nude Descending a Staircase 23 Feb 2009 5:21am @lucie: Thanks Lucie. You're the second person whose said that to me! Although I didn't have that particular painting in mind when I did this photo. I've seen plenty of cubist paintings before so maybe I processed it subconciously in a way that accentuated those type of qualities. Russ Devan from New Hanover, United StatesVery clever to use a long shutter speed here. I love the sense of movement of the crowd. I like how I can make out individual people in the blur. Top marks, Ian. 25 Feb 2009 7:39pm |
