Paris in the SnowPosted by Ian Bramham (Manchester, United Kingdom) on 5 January 2009 in Cityscape & Urban and Portfolio. A photo from my Christmas trip to Paris. It snowed early one morning and I was lucky enough to be able to take a few photos. This photo shows a seagull perched on the ice on a frozen fountain in the Tuileries Gardens near the Louvre . You can see the ferris wheel of the Place de La Concorde in the background. For purchasing high quality archival prints of any of these photos you can send me an email by clicking here or by going to MY NEW WEBSITE where prices are listed in the gallery sections under each individual photo. Links to the websites of other photographers whose work I love and who have all helped me enormously over a long period of time. I find the work of all 3 to be inspirational.

bluechameleon from Vancouver, CanadaWhat a great shot Ian! The shallow depth of field makes the background just perfect for this shot! Nice black & white tones. 5 Jan 2009 5:33am @bluechameleon: Thanks Sharon....I'm slowly learning the best ways of using such a long telephoto lens. I prefer wide angle photography normally. Laurie from New Jersey, United StatesThis is a sweet composition with excellent DoF. 5 Jan 2009 6:02am @Laurie: Thanks very much Laurie! yz from Budapest, HungaryHappy new year! Great shot for starting 2009, I like the shallow dof. 5 Jan 2009 7:00am @yz: Thanks yz! Really nice atmosphere... silhouettes seem to shiver in the cold. A very wintered parisian picure indeed ! 5 Jan 2009 12:01pm Michael Skorulski from Cigel, SlovakiaI like the surprise bird at the end of loading. An original image, Ian. 5 Jan 2009 12:15pm Anna.C from LA ROCHELLE, Francegreat composition and dof ! nice picture ! happy new year ! 5 Jan 2009 12:29pm Cheryl from Texas, United Stateswow, I love this! that bird looks frozen also! can't wait to see more pic's from your trip! 5 Jan 2009 2:48pm hugo poon from hong kong, Hong KongSo glad to find that you're back Ian!:-) 5 Jan 2009 3:46pm Nataly from Santa Monica, United StatesVery nice image, Ian. The out of focus area has just the right amount of acuteness and the bird is so crisp and fantastic. Happy New Year! 5 Jan 2009 4:54pm ordinaryimages from Kentucky Bluegrass, United StatesSuch a contrast in focus, with a bit of wry humor. best...jerry 5 Jan 2009 6:58pm Margie from Auckland, New ZealandThis is wonderful! Great composition (as always) and the selective focus makes for a stunning shot. Bravo. 5 Jan 2009 7:27pm Viewfinder from Bradenton, United StatesThis gull looks cold and depressed. Does it snow often in Paris? 5 Jan 2009 8:38pm @Viewfinder: Hi Glenn....we often go at Christmas to spend some time with my wife's family. It is usually a lot colder than where we live in the north of the England and I've been there when temperatures were as low as -10degC. I guess it's more of a continental weather system than the UK. As for snow though it's pretty rare and I think I've only seen it snow there 3 or 4 times at Christmas in the last 25 years or so. The weather lady on the French TV said the snow on the morning of this photo was unexpected and they put the cause down to pollution in the air above the city combined with the cold weather. amy from Nanaimo, BC, CanadaBrilliant as always, Ian! Truly brilliant! I think it's the almost shallow dof that still allows the viewer to see life going on around this loan gull but can feel it's consternation, if you will (and sorry for humanizing the gull's emotions.. if they have emotions... LOL!) 6 Jan 2009 2:58am João Mourão from Amadora, PortugalFantastic B&W shot. It seems the seagull is part of the fountain, like if it's made of stone. 7 Jan 2009 12:55am 613photo from DALLAS, United StatesExcellent shot. I love how the people seem to all be walking toward that thing that looks like a starburst. Honestly, the foreground with the bird is definitely nice but I think the photo may have been stronger without him. 7 Jan 2009 11:43pm Magda from Vancouver, CanadaOutstanding image! The bokeh is beautiful! Love the framing 14 Jan 2009 8:48pm |
