Annecy at NightPosted by Ian Bramham (Manchester, United Kingdom) on 6 May 2008 in Cityscape & Urban and Portfolio. Following on from yesterday's photo, this is another one from the beautiful French alpine town of Annecy. For purchasing high quality archival prints of any of these photos you can send me an email by clicking here or by going to MY NEW WEBSITE where prices are listed in the gallery sections under each individual photo. Links to the websites of other photographers whose work I love and who have all helped me enormously over a long period of time. I find the work of all 3 to be inspirational.

Ana Lúcia from Leiria, PortugalThis is a great night shot! I loved the composition and color. 6 May 2008 6:32am @Ana Lúcia: Thanks...it was the delightful colours that made me want to photograph this scene! Observing from Chester, United KingdomTwo yellow reflections... where have I seen that before :) Lovely shot of the plaza and restaurant. Nice one Ian. 6 May 2008 6:44am @Observing: Thanks very much...I'm really pleased you liked it! Lorraine from Gatineau, Canadathe colours ARE magnificent, bravo again, and again :) 6 May 2008 8:48am @Lorraine: Thanks Lorraine....I was really pleased with the colours on this one and couldn't bear the idea of losing them in a B&W conversion. @Alun Lambert: Thanks very much Alun! GJC from Kyoto, JapanA classic Ian Bramham shot, in all the best senses of that: sensitive attention to light not only from the source but radiated light as well, plenty of pavement to give perspective and space, and that quiet feeling of soft night. Wonderful. 6 May 2008 10:52am @GJC: Thanks GJC...it had been raining heavily all day which made the pavements reflect the lights really well. @Viewfinder: Thanks very much Glenn....I think the wet and shiny pavements from all the rain we had that day really helped the lighting. Pouhou from Apeldoorn, NetherlandsDid you taste the natural ice cream made in Annecy ? 6 May 2008 12:23pm @Pouhou: Hi Pouhou!....no, not this time although we tried it when we stayed in Annecy last year! IanSmith from London, United KingdomNice photo Ian. I that you doing your 'Hitchcock' appearance again? 6 May 2008 12:31pm @IanSmith: Thanks Ian!...yes it's me again in this shot. I've only just processed some more of these ones from our Easter ski trip there. The ones that are coming up over the next 3 days are all handheld night shots using a low fstop prime so I think this is likely to be the last of the self-portraits. Helma from Tehran, IranGreat night shot with best lighting and good composed ! ... thanks. 6 May 2008 2:42pm @Helma: Thanks very much Helma! @Amir: Cheers Amir! @tom: Thanks for that Tom! Sol from Buenos Aires, ArgentinaHi there! Thank you for finding me :) (well, I voted too for you) 6 May 2008 9:58pm @Sol: Hi Sol....I enjoyed looking at the photos on your blog! Momo from Montpellier, FranceHi Ian...good to have a steady internet connection and good to see your work again...the high quality continues...love the french architecture, color, is that you standing there?great composition as always...and thanks for the link to hugo's work...he really is special, isn't he... 6 May 2008 11:26pm @Momo: Hi Momo.....it's great to see that you're back on line. Yes, that's me in the photo with the camera on a tripod and self-timer - I experimented a few times that night by taking tripod photos with and without a figure in the photo (I'm the only model I had handy) to see what difference it would make. The ones over the next 3 days however are all normal handheld photos using a low fstop prime lens. sherri from Little Rock, Arkansas, United StatesLove the brick streets and the yellow light is cool:-) 7 May 2008 12:55am @sherri: Thanks Sherri....I really liked the pastel colours too and was pleased to see them come out so well on the photo. @Cheryl: Thanks Cheryl....the colours in Annecy are great and I was really pleased that I was able to reproduce them despite the notorious difficulties of streetlights for altering colour. I shoot in 'Raw' format so was able to play with the colour balance until I got something that looked right. amy from Rocky Mountain House, CanadaI love how you're just standing in the image... did you use the self-timer? Because you look quite calm after probably racing like a madman to get to your position! Of course, you may have a great remote? Whatever the case may be, it's a fantastic image! The colours and glow from the rain are so gorgeous and inviting. 7 May 2008 2:47am @amy: Thanks Amy - yes, it was the 10 second self timer, a mad dash to stand in place for the photo and then straining my hearing for the click of the shutter. This all took a few trys to get right by which time the locals knew there was a madman loose in town :-) Margie from Auckland, New ZealandWell, I'm glad I read all those comments. I really enjoyed reading all that info about the self timer... and the madman loose! 7 May 2008 5:23am @Margie: Thanks Margie...it was a lot of fun taking these photos! |
