Annecy at NightPosted by Ian Bramham (Manchester, United Kingdom) on 5 May 2008 in Cityscape & Urban and Portfolio. Over the next few days I'm going to post some more of the night time photos that I took at Easter in the beautiful French alpine town of Annecy. The town is medieval and borders a beautiful mountain lake with views of the Alps. I hope you'll like the photos. For purchasing high quality archival prints of any of these photos you can send me an email by clicking here or by going to MY NEW WEBSITE where prices are listed in the gallery sections under each individual photo. Links to the websites of other photographers whose work I love and who have all helped me enormously over a long period of time. I find the work of all 3 to be inspirational.

Sharon from Brooklyn, United StatesLovely composition. I like the texture of the street reflected in the light. 5 May 2008 5:06am @Sharon: Thanks Sharon...I had a great time taking these photos. Annecy is a beautiful place with oodles of character! Margie from Auckland, New ZealandI love the pattern of the cobblestones - nicely highlighted - and the curve of the railing...very cool! 5 May 2008 5:26am @Margie: Thanks Margie! - It had been raining heavily all day during the day which really made the pavements shine in the streetlights. @Alun Lambert: Thanks very much Alun! @Ana Lúcia: Thanks very much Ana! Observing from Chester, United KingdomThe sloping road and the glow from the cafe is brilliant. 5 May 2008 10:34am @Observing: Thanks very much - Annecy is such a beautiful town! Cheryl from Boerne, United StatesI like the mood this sets! especially after ready that it is taken in a medieval town, perfect for B&W. The curve really draws you into the image. good job 5 May 2008 11:50am @Cheryl: Thanks Cheryl - the oldest buildings in this part of town are about 900 years old. Michael Skorulski from Cigel, SlovakiaExcellent composition, Ian, in this rather mysterious old-film-like image! 5 May 2008 12:00pm @Michael Skorulski: Thanks Michael.....Annecy has bags of atmosphere. All I had to do was photograph it as it is. Japanalia from Yokohama, JapanYou're particularly good at this B&W processing!Part of the image is in darkness contrasting challengingly with the lit up spots (like the bordering rail against the shining pavement). And the streetlamp looks like beckoning you to step further on...in the darkness beyond. 5 May 2008 12:40pm @Japanalia: Thanks very much Gabriela...I was concerned that I had left the image looking a little too pale so I'm pleased you liked it! pierre from athis mons, FranceGreat B&W ! I particulary like the texture of the cobblestones and the reflects of the light. 5 May 2008 2:07pm @pierre: Thanks Pierre! - there had been heavy rain all day which left the pavements shiny and reflective. @Viewfinder: Thanks Glenn - Annecy is a joy for photographers. @Jeffster: Thanks Jeff! @akarui: Thanks very much Akuri! Guillermina from Buenos Aires, ArgentinaI love this kind of warped quality some of your shots have... Is it your eye, your lens, both?... Anyhow, it's an interesting trademark. 6 May 2008 12:37am @Guillermina: Thanks Guillermina, I guess it's mostly the lens. This is with a Sigma 10-20mm extreme wide angle zoom. It's my favourite lens...I love the way it exaggerates perspective. tom from Frankfurt, GermanyI like this as B&W. The light on the cobblestones and the overal tone and mood is awesome. 6 May 2008 5:07am @tom: Thanks Tom,,,,it had been raining all day hence the shiny wet cobblestones which was a real bonus. amy from Rocky Mountain House, CanadaSuch a sense of quiet and serene darkness. Excellent in the b/w, Ian!! 7 May 2008 2:42am @amy: Thanks Amy....the original colour version looked a little washed out and it was suggested to me that it might look better in B&W (I added contrast in 'curves' as part of the conversion) Oswegan from Lake Oswego, United StatesA lovely capture here. I like the angle of the street and the subtle detail as your eye rounds the corner. 7 May 2008 4:27pm @Oswegan: Thanks very much...I tried adding a comment on the long long list re the photo of your son with the toy boat but VFXY crashed. |
