Observing from Chester, United Kingdom

Very peaceful looking photo, and good framing with the tree branches, and division with the wall. The daffodils against the give an added touch.

2 May 2008 5:18am

@Observing: Thanks very much!....this was right on the limit of my 10-20 wide angle zoom. My back was against the trunk of the tree and you can see how close the cross of the church steeple is to the top of the frame...in an ideal world I'd have liked a bit more room up there.

I liked the photo too much though for it to moulder away on my computer....it's the most beautiful setting imagineable for a church.

Michael Skorulski from Cigel, Slovakia

Oolala, this is good. The composition is superb. Your work really is in a league of its own.

2 May 2008 5:18am

@Michael Skorulski: Thanks Michael...this was too beautiful a scene to not photograph it even though it was difficult getting the top of the church all in the frame!

Ana Lúcia from Leiria, Portugal

I agree with other postings. This is an exceptional photo.

2 May 2008 6:16am

@Ana Lúcia: Thanks Ana!

celialee from Japan

Awesome...indeed it is an exceptional photo. Love the composition.

Margie from Auckland, New Zealand

Great photo and very aptly named. Such a sense of peace.

2 May 2008 9:11am

@Margie: Thanks Margie...it's a beautiful place to end up isn't it.

Ruben Latre from Terrassa, Spain

Beautiful composition, I love the branches going to the upper left corner, great black & white exposure !! a perfect postcard (although a bit creepy for a postcard I mean :)

2 May 2008 9:11am

@Ruben Latre: Hi Ruben!

I know what you're saying about the postcard quality....but it's partly what I'm trying to get away from (if that doesn't sound too crazy). It's like our discussion on the Pond-Trees photo of a few days ago, it doesn't mean I don't like this kind of shot anymore, it's just that I want to try to discover other ways of expressing beauty through photos.

Alun Lambert from Cheshire, United Kingdom

Lovely image, i like the way you have framed this shot.

2 May 2008 11:32am

@Alun Lambert: Thanks Alun!

alex centrella from California, United States

nice framing and the title says it all.....

2 May 2008 1:52pm

@alex centrella: Thanks Alex!....yes, it was a beautiful day with a lovely quality to the light and there was an extraordinary stillness to the churchyard - no noise at all.

El Jefe from Almeria, Spain

Wow, lovely composition. I like it
Saludos

@El Jefe: Thanks El Jefe!

lucie from san francisco, United States

a wonderful photo, great tones and composition and feeling.

2 May 2008 3:59pm

@lucie: Thanks Lucie...I was lucky with the light that day!

Jim Mahan from Glendale, CA, United States

You have an amazing portfolio! Love the way you frame the images!!

2 May 2008 4:22pm

@Jim Mahan: Thanks Jim...that's very kind of you!

Stefan from Thiersee, Austria

good composition, well done!

2 May 2008 8:07pm

@Stefan: Thanks Stefan!

Viewfinder from Bradenton, United States

Fantastic BW. Well-named. I like the size and the white border you've got around your shots; they really stand out. This one surely does.

2 May 2008 8:26pm

@Viewfinder: Thanks Glenn!...the white border was suggested to me by a very talented graphic designer called John Leech: http://www.leechdesign.co.uk/

MadScientist from Düsseldorf, Germany

An earnest and quiet setting in a magnificent landscape!

2 May 2008 10:18pm

@MadScientist: Thanks - it had a real beauty and quiet serentity to it.

Laurie from New Jersey, United States

That is a stunning old church.

3 May 2008 1:52am

@Laurie: I don't think the church itself is particularly old...victorian I think?...but the setting overlooking the beauty of Morecambe Bay with that serene light that you find on the coast sometimes - it's a spectacular place.

Michael Rawluk from Prince George, Canada

Great shot. It looks like it should be in some Gothic novel. The composition is spot on.

3 May 2008 1:55am

@Michael Rawluk: Thanks Michael....the composition was at the limit of the wide angle setting on this lens and ideally I'd have liked a bit more room above the top of the church steeple.

sherri from Little Rock, Arkansas, United States

This is a beautiful photo. I especially love the rock wall leading the eye to the mountain in the distance and the few flowers blooming by it's side. So many elements of this could be mentioned, but I'll suffice to say as I look at it I can feel the breeze on my face and feel the tranquility as you've so aptly named it.

3 May 2008 2:39am

@sherri: Thanks Sherri...that makes me feel very pleased!

Sharon from Brooklyn, United States

Another wonderful shot. I concur with the others above about the framing of the trees being great.

3 May 2008 3:32am

@Sharon: Thanks Sharon...the lens I used for this shot (Sigma 10-20) is really wonderful with lots of sharpness and good contrast!

Lorraine from Gatineau, Canada

I know I left a comment, I was so stupefied by this beauty of a photo...can't remember what I said, but I remember I gave it 5 stars, but then again all your photos are worthy of it, but you know.... :)

3 May 2008 11:38am

@Lorraine: Thanks for taking the time to come back and leave another comment. The same thing happens to me as well now and then and I know how frustrating it is when you lose everything you've just typed!

tom from Frankfurt, Germany

Perfectly composed. The wall add great depth to the shot.

3 May 2008 9:13pm

@tom: Thanks Tom...the composition was surprisingly difficult. Normally I tend to see these things straight away but I took many photos in this beautiful churchyard before settling on this viewpoint.

Japanalia from Yokohama, Japan

Composition is well balanced and the tonality makes it even more attractive

4 May 2008 8:47am

@Japanalia: Thanks Gabriella...I'm still not sure if I should have made it a touch darker but went with this lighter tone as I thought it suited the light and the peaceful tranquility of the churchyard.
