Wayfarers Arcade, Southport

Posted by Ian Bramham (Manchester, United Kingdom) on 1 May 2008 in Architecture and Portfolio.

I took this photo while we were in Southport one weekend doing some shopping and visiting family.

The arcade is victorian and has the most beautiful domed and vaulted glass roof.

Rhys from Darlington, United Kingdom

Great shot! Did you go into the French deli/cafe- highly recommended! My parents live just outside Southport- this reminds me of home.

1 May 2008 10:59am

@Rhys: Hi Rhys...it's a few years since I went into the cafe and I think it may have changed hands since then. I used to live in Crosby, then Formby and my Mum & Dad and other family still live in the area so I still think of it as home too.

Lorraine from Gatineau, Canada

Danny_Only from Hong Kong

I love this one.

Hmmm, I will try something similar, I hope you don't mind:p

@Danny_Only: Hi Danny....one tip for taking photos of tall buildings with this 10-20 lens is to try and get to a level about half way up which avoids having to tilt the lens up or down and so minimises distortion.

Observing from Chester, United Kingdom

Nice walk through. I haven't been to this one (yet) but there is a smilar victorian arcade in Chester. Well photographed.

@Observing: thanks very much...I was lucky that the light was so good that day.

Viewfinder from Bradenton, United States

This appears to be a most civilized way to shop; a beautiful setting and a wonderful composition with lighting, angles, and colors providing just enough tension to make it an eye-grabber.
