Winter DawnPosted by Ian Bramham (Manchester, United Kingdom) on 7 January 2008 in Cityscape & Urban and Portfolio. This photo is of dawn's first light breaking over Paris.....no sun but dramatic nontheless I thought. The photo was taken last week from the top of Montmartre, just a few paces from the steps shown on yesterday's photo. . For purchasing high quality archival prints of any of these photos you can send me an email by clicking here or by going to MY NEW WEBSITE where prices are listed in the gallery sections under each individual photo. Links to the websites of other photographers whose work I love and who have all helped me enormously over a long period of time. I find the work of all 3 to be inspirational.

Michael Rawluk from Prince George, CanadaI am so jealous. It would cost me a small fortune to go to Paris. 7 Jan 2008 6:45am @Michael Rawluk: Thanks Michael - one of the joys of living in Europe (even way up here in the North of England :-) is the opportunity to easily visit so many beautiful and culturally diverse countries. @Steven: Cheers Steven - I'm really pleased that you liked it! @eddy: Thanks Eddy! @Sujit Sudhi: What a lovely thing to say - thank you! GJC from Kyoto, JapanThis is fabulous, and it's so interesting that it has such a different feel than yesterday's. Those pearl grays make one sigh for their lovliness -- the kind of muted study of coloring Whistler would love. This is a real winner. 7 Jan 2008 10:51am @GJC: I'm really pleased that you like the photo so much - I'm afraid that I don't know Whistler's work very well at all apart from seeing one painting in an art museum (in Paris funnily enough!) about 20 years ago now. By the way aminus3 images are sometimes a little fuzzy...if you want to see a sharper version I've posted it on DPReviews Nikon D40-80 forum together with 7 others taken at roughly the same time during a nightime walk to Montmartre. Let me know what you think... @badala: Thank you very much badala! Guillermina from Buenos Aires, ArgentinaDramatic indeed. Look at all those shades of lilac and violet mixed with grey... Truly beautiful. 7 Jan 2008 12:35pm @Guillermina: Thanks Guillermina - I've posted a mini-series of night photos from this part of Paris here if you want to see more from Montmartre .....http://forums.dpreview.com/forums/readflat.asp?forum=1034&thread=26330034 Ondro from Brezno, Slovakiaexcellent city-scape :) I like the color of the sky :) 7 Jan 2008 12:39pm @Ondro: Thanks very much Ondro! Lorraine from Gatineau, CanadaDelightful, love the enhancement caused by the light...the tones are magnificent and the mood, ahhh the mood 7 Jan 2008 1:02pm @Lorraine: Hi Lorraine - Im really pleased that you liked it. Brian from West Lafayette, AfghanistanDramatic! The colors are a wonderful mixture indeed--I agree with GJC; it's almost a Whistler! 7 Jan 2008 2:35pm @Brian: Thanks Brian - I don't know Whistler's work at all well but I'll take that as a major compliment. I've posted a mini-series of night photos from this part of Paris here if you want to see more from Montmartre .....http://forums.dpreview.com/forums/readflat.asp?forum=1034&thread=26330034 @yiannis krikis: Thanks very much Yiannis! I've just posted a mini-series of night photos from this part of Paris here if you want to see more from Montmartre .....http://forums.dpreview.com/forums/readflat.asp?forum=1034&thread=26330034 @Will: Thanks Will! @alex centrella: Thanks Alex! Richard_Irwin from Belper, United KingdomI like the looming winter sky over the Paris skyline, and the way the eye is drawn to the bright streets at lower left. Its an inviting image with plenty of drama. 7 Jan 2008 10:36pm @Richard_Irwin: Thanks very much Richard! Rags from Plano, United Statesawesome view! The half day half night look that it has makes for a very interesting image. 8 Jan 2008 2:23am @Rags: Thanks Rags - it was one of those photos where I didn't think I'd get anything useable but ended up being really pleasantly surprised by the result out of the camera....I had been hoping for a traditional sunrise but was so amazed by the way that the wintery dawn light finally appeared that I had to take a photo. Ken BOYD from Napa, United StatesIan .....your night shots are the best I'v seen..... 8 Jan 2008 3:32am @Ken BOYD: Thank you Ken - what a great compliment! - I've left you a reply over on DPReview Fujitalk forum by the way. @elaine: Thanks very much Elaine! |
