Charles de Gaulle, Paris

Posted by Ian Bramham (Manchester, United Kingdom) on 3 January 2008 in Cityscape & Urban and Portfolio.

Well, I'm back from our trip to France. Thanks for your comments while I was away!

This photo was taken on the Champs Elysees and is of the statue of Charles De Gaulle, perhaps France's most famous President. It soon became clear to me where the sculptor got his inspiration when the pedestrian crossing light changed to the green 'walking man' symbol!

Pouhou from Apeldoorn, Netherlands

yeah right
Where did you go during your trip to Paris ?
I like the result between the sky and the Buliding / trees
How did you process it ?

3 Jan 2008 2:58pm

@Pouhou: Hi Pouhou!.......well you can't go to paris and not go down the Champs Elysees can you!

I shoot all my D40 pics in Raw and use Adobe ACR and Photoshop Elements 5 to process them but this one needed almost no adjustment apart from adding about 10% warmth using the colour temperature slider in ACR. Oh, and a crop as it was a quick snapshot on full wide angle while crossing the street when I saw the similarity between the two figures.

Michael Rawluk from Prince George, Canada

That is so cool, Ian. I love the way you used the colours.

Wonderful shot . You've got a great eye Ian. Your morning walk in Paris inspired you, that's easy to see. Kept in step with your surroundings.

Pouhou from Apeldoorn, Netherlands

so well done
I lived 25 years in Paris, I was skating (inline) every sunday with friends along the "champs Elysees".
Going back every 2 or 3 month for refill Thé, spice (I'm coming from the French Antille) et friends and it's strange because things you did'nt really notice before you just take time to enjoy it now.So every time I saw a picture of place I used to have habits I am happy and sad a the same time.

@Pouhou: Thanks very much Pouhou - I'm pleased that it brought back memories for you. I actually got a shot of the rollerskaters and I'm posting it on Tuesday!

elrubns from Paris, Spain

You missed the Churchill statue!!!! very closed to the De Gaulle one... ;-)
Really like this one.

7 Jan 2008 8:36pm

@elrubns: I did have a look (but didn't get a photo) at the Churchill statue which, as you say, is only about 100 meters or so away closer to Pont Alexande III.

I thought ironically that the Churchill statue was much more humanist and sympathetic in its design without that huge plinth that De Gaulle is on.
