Is it a ship or is it a building? Detail from a corner of the Imperial War Museum, Manchester designed by the world renowned architect Daniel Libeskind.

@Mauro: Thanks Mauro! - I managed to get a few photos of this building that I liked so maybe I'll post them sometime in the next week or so.
Beautiful, the way you've captured the light at the very top, a brilliant b&w capture. I think it's time I visited Manchester!

@MaryB: Hi Mary - yes come over to Manchester. Its not far from you in Staffordshire is it. This building is just round the corner from my office in Trafford and opposite 'The Lowry' on yesterdays shot.
wow that is interesting, heading for Roswell? ;)

@Lorraine: Thanks Lorraine - I guess it does have a touch of UFO about it does'nt it!
The lines and the angle you have worked with in this photo are unique and fantastic!

@Lost Valley View: Thats very kind of you 'Lost Valley View'. (by the way - the link to your blog is dead, have you stopped posting?)
this is so cool. this building really reminds me of the Jewish Museum in Berlin and of course of Daniel Libeskind. Great B&W picture.

Excellent capture looks great in B&W

@Barbara: Thanks Barbara!
thinkthe b/w enhanced the fact of it being a war museum, the clouds just seem to make this place so gloomy and sad!The overall effect is just great!:)

@tyan: Thanks Tyan - I thought it was better photographed in b&w as there is no real colour in the building itself - the skin is made from shiny natural coloured aluminium.
Lovely monochrome study! Wonderful framing and composition.

@Brian: Thanks Brian - I'm really pleased that you liked it!
The blast of sunlight on the building is what makes it for me.

@Michael Rawluk: The building is only a few minutes from my office and I went down at lunchtime there because the weather seemed great that day with a lot of mixed cloud and sunshine - I was just lucky with the angle that the sun hit that spot.
It's mildly embarrassing that I've never actually been there before! I've probably heard or glimpsed but never been ... which is upsetting really, because I'd "consider" myself to be very into War history. :P
Lovely picture, thank you for your comment by the way. :) I'm sorry I didn't get to reciprocate earlier!

@Jenny: Hi Jenny - you should pay a visit as the whole area is very photogenic if you like modern structures - the inside of 'The Lowry' is great as well.
A wonderful structure you captured with a spooky sky to go along with it. I LIKE IT!

@Rabbit: I'm glad you liked the sky Rabbit - I was really pleased with it too!

@Steve: thanks Steve - its pretty much as it came out of the camera which was set to b&w.
kinda cool.

@Daniel: Thanks Daniel - I ejoyed looking at the b&w images on your own AM3 blog.
great composition! I like the lines and the grey tones. well done

@Geoff Hoffman: Thanks Geoff - I appreciate it! - the tone in my b&w shots is something I've been thinking about recently as previously I believe I'd been using too much contrast. This one was my first taken in b&w in-camera rather than being a conversion from colour and I was pleased in how it turned out.
i really like your composition here.. nice how the sun is hitting off of that left side of the building
