Imperial War Museum, ManchesterPosted by Ian Bramham (Manchester, United Kingdom) on 17 September 2007 in Architecture and Portfolio. Is it a ship or is it a building? For purchasing high quality archival prints of any of these photos you can send me an email by clicking here or by going to MY NEW WEBSITE where prices are listed in the gallery sections under each individual photo. Links to the websites of other photographers whose work I love and who have all helped me enormously over a long period of time. I find the work of all 3 to be inspirational.

@Mauro: Thanks Mauro! - I managed to get a few photos of this building that I liked so maybe I'll post them sometime in the next week or so. MaryB from Staffordshire, United KingdomBeautiful, the way you've captured the light at the very top, a brilliant b&w capture. 17 Sep 2007 9:12am @MaryB: Hi Mary - yes come over to Manchester. Its not far from you in Staffordshire is it. This building is just round the corner from my office in Trafford and opposite 'The Lowry' on yesterdays shot. @Lorraine: Thanks Lorraine - I guess it does have a touch of UFO about it does'nt it! Lost Valley View from CanadaThe lines and the angle you have worked with in this photo are unique and fantastic! 17 Sep 2007 10:46am @Lost Valley View: Thats very kind of you 'Lost Valley View'. aaxan from Tokyo, Japanthis is so cool. this building really reminds me of the Jewish Museum in Berlin and of course of Daniel Libeskind. Great B&W picture. 17 Sep 2007 12:26pm @aaxan: Thanks aaxan - with an Architect as talented as Libeskind it makes it easy to get interesting photos! @Barbara: Thanks Barbara! tyan from Singapore, Singaporethinkthe b/w enhanced the fact of it being a war museum, the clouds just seem to make this place so gloomy and sad!The overall effect is just great!:) 17 Sep 2007 1:34pm @tyan: Thanks Tyan - I thought it was better photographed in b&w as there is no real colour in the building itself - the skin is made from shiny natural coloured aluminium. Brian from United StatesLovely monochrome study! Wonderful framing and composition. 17 Sep 2007 1:47pm @Brian: Thanks Brian - I'm really pleased that you liked it! Michael Rawluk from Prince George, CanadaThe blast of sunlight on the building is what makes it for me. 17 Sep 2007 2:48pm @Michael Rawluk: The building is only a few minutes from my office and I went down at lunchtime there because the weather seemed great that day with a lot of mixed cloud and sunshine - I was just lucky with the angle that the sun hit that spot. Jenny from Manchester, United KingdomIt's mildly embarrassing that I've never actually been there before! I've probably heard or glimpsed but never been ... which is upsetting really, because I'd "consider" myself to be very into War history. :P Lovely picture, thank you for your comment by the way. :) I'm sorry I didn't get to reciprocate earlier! 17 Sep 2007 2:56pm @Jenny: Hi Jenny - you should pay a visit as the whole area is very photogenic if you like modern structures - the inside of 'The Lowry' is great as well. Rabbit from Richmond, United StatesA wonderful structure you captured with a spooky sky to go along with it. I LIKE IT! 17 Sep 2007 3:00pm @Rabbit: I'm glad you liked the sky Rabbit - I was really pleased with it too! @Dhini: thanks Dhini! @NeGaR: Thanks very much! @Steve: thanks Steve - its pretty much as it came out of the camera which was set to b&w. @Daniel: Thanks Daniel - I ejoyed looking at the b&w images on your own AM3 blog. Geoff Hoffman from Chicago, United Statesgreat composition! I like the lines and the grey tones. well done 18 Sep 2007 3:01am @Geoff Hoffman: Thanks Geoff - I appreciate it! - the tone in my b&w shots is something I've been thinking about recently as previously I believe I'd been using too much contrast. This one was my first taken in b&w in-camera rather than being a conversion from colour and I was pleased in how it turned out. Nick Passantino from Bronx, United Statesi really like your composition here.. nice how the sun is hitting off of that left side of the building 18 Sep 2007 3:31pm @Nick Passantino: Thanks Nick! |
