Annecy (2 of 7)Posted by Ian Bramham (Manchester, United Kingdom) on 27 July 2007 in Landscape & Rural and Portfolio. This is the second photo in the series taken in Annecy in the French Alps. The crystal clear water from the lake in yesterday's shot starts to flow out through streets of the old town. More from Annecy tomorrow.... For purchasing high quality archival prints of any of these photos you can send me an email by clicking here or by going to MY NEW WEBSITE where prices are listed in the gallery sections under each individual photo. Links to the websites of other photographers whose work I love and who have all helped me enormously over a long period of time. I find the work of all 3 to be inspirational.

Mike from Lichfield, United KingdomAnnecy is a wonderful place and the water is gorgeously clear. However it hasn't always been like that. It used to be the dumping ground for sceptic waste right up to the sixties and threatened the health of locals. In 1962 a huge clean up operation began. All raw sewage pipes were closed off and at great expense and technical difficulty proper sewage pipes were laid. The operation was so successful that Annecy is now reputed to have the cleanest lake in Europe with an abundance of thriving wildlife. 24 Feb 2009 8:26am @Mike: Thanks Mike...that's very interesting and just goes to show what can be achieved when the comittment is there. |
